On August 28th, during the International Forum on Future Transportation (Kunming) 2024, Yang Dongwei, Deputy Secretary of the Party Working Committee and Deputy Director of the Management Committee of Yunnan Dian Zhong New Area, unveiled four research institutes in the Future Transportation Science City. These research institutes are the Yunnan Research Institute of Shandong University, the Future Transportation Innovation Institute of Yunnan Dian Zhong New Area, the Low Altitude Technology Research Institute of Yunnan Dian Zhong New Area, and the Aerospace Information Application and Security Innovation Center of Yunnan Dian Zhong New Area. 

According to relevant officials from the Management Bureau of Yunnan Dian Zhong Science City, the Future Transportation Innovation Institute is undertaking a pilot task for national transportation development. The institute will focus on smart transport equipment, intelligent transportation, and smart transport maintenance, leveraging Yunnan's location and resources to integrate technological innovation, industry incubation, and international talent cultivation in the transportation field, aiming to become a new type of open research institution with international vision, distinctive professional features, and industry influence.

The Yunnan Research Institute of Shandong University will explore areas such as smart transportation, intelligent construction, new materials, smart energy, and advanced manufacturing and extend into fields like biomedicine, digital economy, and modern agriculture. It aims to attract and cultivate high-end talent, produce a series of original technological achievements, promote technological progress and upgrading in Yunnan's industries, and drive the high-quality development of new quality productive forces.

The Low Altitude Technology Research Institute of Yunnan Dian Zhong New Area will focus on R&D design, standard setting, technology conversion, and talent cultivation, leveraging the low-altitude flight R&D capabilities of domestic and international universities and institutions and the flight control and service capabilities of Kunming Changshui International Airport. It will develop solutions tailored to Yunnan's high-altitude climate and unique application scenarios to promote the high-quality development of the low-altitude economy in Yunnan.

The Aerospace Information Application and Security Innovation Center, as a specialized research and industrialization platform of the Future Transportation Innovation Research Institute of Yunnan DIan Zhong New Area, will collaborate with the China Aerospace Science and Industry Corporation Limited's Space Engineering General Department and the Aviation Industry Development Research Center of China. It will actively explore an innovative development model combining "professional construction and achievement transformation," aiming to establish a leading domestic aerospace big data application and security technology system by 2027.
