Recently, according to Kunming Exit-Entry Border Inspection Station, the flow of inbound and outbound passengers has seen steady growth for four consecutive weeks during the summer season. From July 1st to August 11th, a total of 330,000 people were inspected at the Kunming border, which had recovered to 66% of the volume during the same period in 2019. On August 10th, the single-day passenger traffic at the Kunming Exit-Entry Border Inspection Station surpassed 10,000, reaching 10,109, setting a new record for the highest single-day passenger traffic in 2024.
"Taking advantage of the summer vacation, several families of ours decided to enroll our children in a 7-day study tour to Singapore. While the children expand their horizons, the parents can also enjoy the holiday," said Mr. Li from Yunnan with delight.During the summer, with the domestic and international tourism markets continuing to heat up, parent-child trips, family trips, and study tours have become the main forces in outbound travel from Kunming. This trend shows a high proportion of family units, students, and children traveling. Hong Kong, Macau, and Southeast Asia are popular destinations for family and parent-child trips.
He Wei, Director of the Border Inspection Department at Kunming Border Inspection Station, stated: "As we enter the second half of the summer season in August, Kunming will witness a peak in family and parent-child travel. The flow of inbound and outbound passengers is expected to continue to rise."
To cope with the peak in summer immigration traffic, the Kunming Border Inspection Station initiated a contingency plan for the summer traffic peak in early July. This includes establishing a scientific and flexible duty mode, activating a police force support mode during peak hours to maximize the use of additional workforce, and dynamically monitoring and forecasting daily immigration traffic peaks to prepare for extreme traffic surges. The station has also enhanced guidance and diversion posts, opened special inspection channels for family travelers, and aimed to meet the customs clearance needs of families traveling together.
