The paddy fields of “Laoheigu”, a thousand-year-old black rice, stretch miles and miles against the backdrop of lush green mountains and farmland houses in the distance. A picture scroll of refreshing summer paddy fields is unfolding. 

Pantiange Township of Weixi County has a long history of cultivating “Laoheigu,” selected as 2022 Top Ten Excellent Crop Germplasm Resources by the Ministry of Agriculture and Rural Affairs and considered a local variety with innovative development value. Since February this year, the local authorities in Pantiange Township of Weixi County have guided and mobilized villagers to plant “Laoheigu” and have completed over 1,000 mu (66.6 acres) of planting. (Editors: Ines, Christine)
